Spanx’s founder, Sara Blakey, came up with the first Spanx when she was getting ready for a party. She wanted to wear a tight-fitting cream colored pant, unfortunately she couldn’t find the right undergarment to wear the pant with. Any undergarment that she would wear would leave a horrible panty line thus destroying the effect of her lovely tight pants. Frustrated, suddenly Sara had an idea. She took her pantyhose and cut the feet off. When she wore the cut-off panty hose with her pants, her body simply look great. That is how Spanx revolution began!

Sara had to really struggle to get her idea approved. When she came up with the idea of body shapers, she only had $5000 in her savings. Definitely not enough to start a business! However, Sara truly believed in her product and so she started looking for a manufacturer. Nobody was willing to work with her because she wasn’t financially backed. Plus, nobody understood her idea. Fortunately, Sara found a mill owner who agreed to help her with her “crazy idea.” The mill owner had initially refused to work with her; he agreed later because his daughters were impressed with the concept of “body shapers.”

The rest is history. It wasn’t an easy journey for Sara. Due to her sheer determination, today she is a billionaire. Spanx is a big Hollywood secret. Gwyneth Paltrow has praised Spanx many times; she says, ‘They just squeeze you in. That’s how all the Hollywood girls do it.”
